The Effects of a Probiotic (Bacillus clausii) in Acute Kidney Injury in a Rat Model of LPS-Induced Endotoxemia

Objective: This study aims to examine the role of a probiotic bacterium, Bacillus clausii, on oxidative stress in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) rat model. Materials and Methods: The rats were divided into four groups: Control group, LPS group (1.5 mg/kg, LPS), Probiotic+LPS which was given after administration clausii as for 21 days, Probiotic group. kidneys removed 24 hours injection. Total antioxidant status, total oxidant index, malondialdehyde myeloperoxidase (MPO) values biochemically determined kidneys. Furthermore, tissue samples immunohistochemically stained interleukin-6 (IL-6) tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression, leukocyte distribution. Results: Endotoxemia caused an increase (p<0.001), lipid peroxidation (p<0.01), MPO activity expression IL-6 (p<0.001) TNF-α (p<0.001). ameliorated stress, peroxidation, activity, resulted decreased reactions that elevated with treatment. Conclusion: results suggest bacterium may have antioxidative property LPSinduced AKI.
